What to Expect from me
I'm Mica May, I have
over 15 years of experience working with children and families
alongside social services.
I have studied and used child development, counselling, play therapy
and parenting skills training to support children and their parents
and carers, in birth families, foster families and adoptive families.
I have been a counsellor to survivors of various forms of abuse
and their families.
I have worked in a Family Centre, where all the children
had experience of abuse and neglect.
I have been a voluntary sector Play Therapist working with
children with difficult behaviour since 1996.
I also established and ran a Parents Consultation Service,
where I provided psychological explanations in no-nonsense language
to parents struggling with their children's behaviour. This enabled
them to create realistic plans of how to manage that behaviour more
effectively.
I will use all this experience when I give you confidential information
and support.
If you need information
about how I work with families going through separation and divorce,
please visit my other website at www.fixourfamily.co.uk
or contact me by email or phone.
When you choose the
Effective Response
Silver Service; breath work only, I will need a little background,
and we will both sign a contract so that we are clear about what
we're going to do.
One consultation may be all you require, but usually we will also
have a follow up session to see how things are going, and iron out
any remaining difficulties.
When you choose the
Effective Response
Gold Service;
 |
I will back you 100% I will take you seriously. |
 |
I will believe in you, and encourage you
to do the same by nurturing your self-belief and your confidence
so they grow strong. |
 |
You will learn to gain control of yourself
and your life to start responding effectively, not simply
reacting to situations. |
 |
You will become more effective by learning
how to gain time to think, so your actions can become more focussed. |
 |
You will create a realistic plan
of focussed intentions to achieve your dreams and desires (and
also a realistic strategy for you to cope with any difficult
behaviours your children are struggling with, if that is necessary)
and I will help you stick to your plan using more effective
action.
|
Before we begin I will ask you to sign a contract, agreeing
the terms I will work with you under, so we both know exactly where
we stand and what we can expect of each other.
I will ask you to write some background about yourself and
your family, any particular difficulties you're struggling with,
some of your goals, what you like about yourself and some things
you might like to change.
Next, I will talk to you for about an hour, usually on the
phone.
At this point we will decide whether your focus is a difficulty
in the family or whether you want to use this time for developing
yourself and planning your future, of course you can use the time
to do all these things.
We will establish your priorities.
I will be able to give you with some explanations for any difficult
behaviours your child/ren may be struggling with, which often helps
parents cope. At this point we may also start developing some strategies
for you to begin responding more effectively to your children's
behaviour.
This is when I will help you to get really clear about what you
want. Your specific plans for the future and effective actions to
make them reality will result from this conversation.
We will book in advance our appointed times to speak each week.
This is something I'm quite strict on, since if you're unable to
commit to speaking regularly at our agreed times, coaching just
won't work for you (if you have an extremely busy and irregular
schedule we can book just one session ahead).
At the end of each session I will set you inter-session tasks
to complete before we speak next (yes, that's homework in plain
english), again, I will expect you to complete them.
