Work with Young People
Life coaching is great with young people.
It focuses precisely on the range of skills you need to develop
at this stage of your life; confidence, self-reliance, a sense of
responsibility, learning how to create solutions and strategies,
being positive and determined; in a nutshell, the skills of adulthood.
Unfortunately, many young people, especially if you've experienced
disadvantage, just don't get to learn these skills.
Breath work can be really helpful to avoid 'losing it' if you're
stressed, the same as it is for anyone.
I work in a very similar way with young people to the way I work
with adults.
I also work with young people in small groups, which can help if
you're inclined to feel isolated. I run groups in towns within a
thirty mile radius of my home; Leeds, Manchester, Blackburn, Burnley,
Calderdale, Bradford, Oldham, Kirklees, Rochdale.
When working with groups of young people I have found it most productive
to separate the groups into, girls (up to age 12-13), young women
(13-18), boys (up to 13), and young men (13-18). Sometimes over
18's are able to concentrate working in mixed sex groups, but this
is rare, so I would only work with young men and women together
if there was a specific reason for this.
I am prepared to do this work via Social Services or the Voluntary
sector.
